Mars Hill Church will close some locations, after several pastors allegedly stepped down. This does not surprise us, after all the alleged scandals, involving this ministry. However, there is a reason why this has happened and one of those reasons is a lesson for other mega ministries to no longer operate unless it is to fully glorify God. If Jesus Christ is not the focus, then we will began to see more mega ministries closing all across America.
According to ChristianToday.com, Mark Driscoll who founded the church in 1996, has been embroiled in a number of scandals in the past few months, including plagiarism and manipulating sales figures by paying a company to bulk-order his book. His controversial leadership style has also garnered significant criticism, and Mars Hill has long been accused of fostering a culture of bullying within its leadership structure.
According to King5.com, Downtown Seattle and U-District will be consolidating with Mars Hill Church Ballard. Mars Hill Church Phoenix will close and Huntington Beach is in jeopardy of closing if giving isn't increased by the end of the year. But plans for a Mars Hill Church Spokane will continue.
