In the life of Marion Barry, although there was scandal, there was a very strong man behind it. Marion Barry of Washington D. C. was a man who cared about people and understood what it took to please them as a politician. Unlike other politicians, he went out of his way to help the poor and needy, according to his widow.
According to BlackChristianNews.com, Rev. Jesse Jackson's eulogy, he called Barry, who came to Washington as the first chairman of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, a “freedom fighter” who joins the pantheon of civil rights leaders who died before him. “Marion was one of the architects of the new South and the new America,” Jackson said. “Marion Barry emancipated Washington.”
In the meantime, our prayers are with the family of the late Marion Barry. May he rest in peace.
